HELSINKI is certainly one of the most architecturally interesting cities in Europe. For centuries, the country was a plaything between Sweden and the Russian Tsarist Empire. It was not until late that it became the capital, and the form of Art Nouveau typical here became an expression of national awakening like nowhere else. In the 20th century, the Finn Alvar Aalto was one of the world's style icons and with the Oodi Central Library, which opened in 2018, a milestone in modern design was achieved again.
